Launched in partnership with Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh, this program provides broadband telecommunications training for adults seeking to obtain employment in jobs which install, test, and troubleshoot infrastructure (things such as copper, fiber optic, and wireless technologies) for telephone, TV, or internet systems. The program enrolls adults whose families are already receiving service from Catholic Charities with the hope that providing a pathway to steady employment will contribute to the overall stability, well-being, and independence of the family.
Gismondi Foundation Brings Job Training to Catholic Charities
The federal government has launched its Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program, intended to provide high-speed internet throughout the country, opening thousands of jobs in southwestern Pennsylvania for those with the necessary skills and hands-on experience. With a legacy gift from the Gismondi Foundation, Catholic Charities has created the Gismondi Job Training Program to teach broadband telecommunications training, leading to jobs that will provide sustainable, living-wage career paths.
The three-month program uses an industry-endorsed, nationally recognized curriculum, that trains adults to install, test and troubleshoot infrastructure for telephone, television or internet systems. We also teach the so skills necessary to ensure long-term success and enroll our students in our case management services to support ongoing life skills, including financial literacy, building healthy relationships and employment readiness.
“I just wanted to say I've had a wonderful experience with the program and appreciate being provided with the necessary tools for me and my classmates to prosper in the future. Thank you, Catholic Charities, Mr. Gismondi for ALL that you have done and everyone who had a hand for even coming up with the idea. I am definitely looking forward to utilizing my skills in a position I enjoy.”
